DIMAPUR, JUN 20 (NPN) : State health and family welfare (H&FW) minister S Pangnyu Phom Saturday disclosed that as per the direction of the Centre the ongoing lockdown would continue in the state till the COVID-19 positivity rate dropped below 5 percent, saying current rate stood at 9.3 percent.
According to an official bulletin, the health minister disclosed this during review meetings with the Longleng District Tasks Force, NGO, Civil Society groups and Churches at DC’s office complex, Longleng on June 19, 2021.
At the meeting, Pangnyu informed that the purpose of his visit was to take stock of the situation and to prepare for the third wave of Covid-19 in the state. Unlike the first wave, health minister said the second wave caused huge casualties in the country not because of lack of medical facilities but due to negligence of the patients who had gone to the hospital at the last hour.
* Govt to deduct 10% from LADP and another 15% from common pool to purchase urgent medical requirements
* DTFs directed to make assessment of required equipment in their respective districts
The minister informed that the state government has decided to deduct 10 percent from LADP and another 15 percent from common pool to purchase urgent medical requirements such as pulse oximeter and oxygen concentrator and provide the equipment to every functioning sub-centre in the state. In this regard, the minister directed the DTF to make assessment of the required equipment in the district.
It may be recalled that the NPF legislature party had earlier objected to the High Powered Committee’s decision to deduct LADP, saying HPC was not mandated to encroach upon the state plan budgetary mechanism. It therefore said that HPC had no legal authority to divert LADP fund to a different head ”without routing through the legislative assembly.”
Meanwhile, Pangnyu stated that PDA government under the chief minister Neiphiu Rio was committed to upgrade the overall health care facilities of the state and cater best service to the needs of the people, with special focus on the health sector to combat the pandemic.
The minister further appealed to all the government officers and staff posted in the district to come forward and extend their helping hand to the medical department and the people during this crucial time.
He congratulated the DTF led by the deputy commissioner, district administration, police, medical, VGs, NGOs, CSOs and churches for working together as a family to combat the pandemic and making Longleng as one of the successful districts in the state.
