• Plan to elevate Dimapur airport on par with major airports
DIMAPUR DECEMBER 8 (MExN): Regional Executive Director of North East Region, Airports Authority of India (AAI), M. Raja Kishore visited Dimapur Airport along with his team from Guwahati and inspected the on-going Capacity Expansion project work of Dimapur Airport Terminal Building.
According to a DIPR report, the Regional Executive Director was assured by the Airport Director and team of Dimapur Airport to hand over the complete building, duly renovated by end of March, 2025.
The Regional Executive Director also met the Chief Minister of Nagaland and discussed about land issues to be addressed to make Dimapur Airport at par with international standards to attract more aircraft operation to and from Dimapur Airport. The CM assured to address all the problems expeditiously, the DIRP report stated.

A delegation from the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), led by its President Mongkum Jamir, also met the Regional Executive Director, to discuss the urgent need for infrastructure development at Dimapur Airport. The meeting was held in the presence of Ababe Ezung, OSD (Transport) to the Chief Minister, highlighting the collective focus on advancing the airport’s infrastructure.
As one of the oldest airports in the region, Dimapur Airport requires significant upgrades to meet the growing demands of passengers and cargo traffic. BAN President emphasized that economic growth in Nagaland is intrinsically linked to infrastructure development. The airport, being fully managed and maintained by the central agency, has the potential to become a key driver of the region’s economy, provided the necessary infrastructure are created.
The Regional Executive Director assured that extensive infrastructure development would be completed by March 2025, transforming the face of Dimapur Airport. He further revealed that a large-scale expansion plan is being formulated to elevate the airport to a standard on par with major airports in India, contingent on the availability of additional land for development.

He also emphasised that Dimapur Airport serves as a vital hub for passengers from neighbouring states such as Manipur and Assam, making it a critical feeder for regional connectivity. The Executive Director outlined a number of key initiatives planned for the airport.
Cargo infrastructure development
A state-of-the-art cargo facility, including a cold storage unit, will be established to handle premium fruits, vegetables, and other perishable goods with short shelf lives. This will facilitate faster distribution across the country, thereby boosting local economic activities.
Enhanced road connectivity
The road connecting the airport to the national highway will be upgraded to a four-lane connecting to the National highway with proper landscaping, improving accessibility and convenience for travellers. Internal roads, including those leading to the arrival and departure sections, will undergo significant quality enhancements.
Modernization of Airport facilities
Plans for infrastructure improvements include passenger amenities, enhanced operational efficiency, and aesthetic upgrades to reflect modern aviation standards.
Local entrepreneur stall at Dimapur Airport
During the meeting, the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) highlighted the need for a dedicated stall at Dimapur Airport to showcase and sell products created by local entrepreneurs. The initiative aims to promote local craftsmanship and provide a platform for small businesses to reach a wider audience, including travellers and tourists.
Responding positively, the Regional Executive Director of AAI instructed the Airport Director to facilitate this initiative under the provisions of the Prime Minister’s scheme. This step aligns with the government’s focus on fostering local businesses and promoting the region’s unique products, the DIPR report stated.
BAN expressed gratitude for this decision, emphasizing that such initiatives are crucial for empowering entrepreneurs and boosting the local economy.
The Regional Executive Director also highlighted the importance of collaboration between local stakeholders and AAI to achieve these ambitious goals. He also reiterated AAI’s commitment to developing Dimapur Airport into a hub of economic and logistical activity.This meeting marks a significant step forward in realizing the region’s potential and creating opportunities for growth and prosperity.
