DIMAPUR, DEC 17 (NPN) : Leader of Opposition, T.R. Zeliang, Thursday emphasised on the importance of preserving Ntangki National Park and said that the landowners should be the first to show the love for animals and the ecological environment.
Speaking at the inaugural programme of the newly constructed village community hall at Beisumpuikam village under Peren district, Zeliang said “if the land owner is prepared to protect their land and its ecological environment in cooperation with the forest department as committed by the villagers to the government, birds and animal will migrate from adjacent Dhansiri reserve forest of Assam in no time or it could be vice versa.”
The former chief minister said that though Beisumpuikam village was established with the blessing of the traditional landowner i.e. Beisumpui village to protect the flora and fauna of Ntangki National Park, recognition of the village was still being challenged by some section of people even after completion of 30 years.
As this regard, the former chief minister called upon all Nagas to respect each other’s traditional land ownership for peaceful coexistence.
He said that many people tried to occupy Ntangki National Park but failed because they did not possess neither traditional nor legal rights.
Zeliang said that Beisumpuikam village survived because it possessed the blessing of the traditional landowner.
LoP also called upon all the surrounding villages of Ntangki National Park to become eco-friendly so animals and man could survive together and future economy of the people living in the valley was insured. He stated that the National Park could be transformed into one of tourist hotspots of the country if not globally.
Meanwhile, Zeliang also graced the 17th Cultural and Sports meet of the village as special guest.
