Nagaland PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi on Wednesday visited the ongoing construction of the Road Over Bridge (RoB) along National Highway-29 in Dimapur. During the visit, he was briefed on the work currently underway including the timeline of completion by the contractor. The firm Innovative Construction (IC) was awarded the contract with an estimated budget of Rs 2.6 crore.

The Minister stated that as the deadline of completion given by the contractor was in mid-December, the quality of work especially on the foundations should not be compromised. He mentioned that initially, the government’s intention was to open vehicular traffic before the start of the Hornbill Festival. However, given the progress of work and the curing period for concrete, that timeframe could not be achieved.

The rehabilitation of the RoB began on October 1 with the Dimapur Traffic Police issuing directives for diversion of vehicular traffic away from the bridge during this period.

According to the project manager, the main portion of the rehabilitation process included dismantling of two spans of the bridge on the Westside, which would then be replaced with Reinforced Earthen (RE) walls. Given the work involved, it has been estimated that vehicular traffic would be open only from January next year onwards.
