NBCC reaffirms stand on NLTP Act, to intensify Clean Election Campaign

Kohima, February 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has resolved to reaffirm its stand on the issue of Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act 1989.

According to a press communiqué issued by the NBCC on February 1, the resolution was taken during the 22nd Triennial Convention held from January 29 to 31.

Held under the theme ‘Stronger Together’, the Convention was hosted by Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) at Baptist College-Shalom Bible Seminary Campus, Sechü – Zubza.

While reaffirming its stand, the Council also urged the government to “seriously and practically implement the Act.”

Consequently, the NBCC also resolved to sincerely carry out the ministry towards the alcoholics and related problems, the NBCC stated.

The Council also resolved to strengthen and intensify the Clean Election Campaign so as to fight against any form of corruption and urged the government to bring out clean electoral reform.

Further, during the Convention, the Council revisited the ANBC– 77/339 (15th October 1977) which, refers to “Enlisting of 10, 000 volunteers for the Great Commission Movement of our Lord Jesus Christ.” According to the NBSS, there are 1, 793 missionaries sent out from Nagaland and 21,041 mission supporters while 1, 832 native evangelists are supported by Associations, churches and individuals till date. It also reaffirmed its commitment to working for the Great Commission.

The NBCC family also resolved to remain true to its theme ‘Stronger Together’ by setting up Friendship Fund to help and support the Associations in need.

Among its resolutions, the Council also included cooperation with the medical fraternity and government in the fight against COVID-19 to contain the pandemic, while remaining true to the biblical teaching which it said, “is the final authority for the Christians.”

The Council resolved to revive “God’s original purpose for family (husband, wife & children) in working together in partnership, walking together and fellowshipping together.”

Meanwhile, the NBCC stated that it resolved to “firmly assert our Christian faith in responding to any Counter Culture.”

In this regard, the Council stated that any policy that are implemented at the cost of compromising Christian faith by organizing official events which coincide with Sunday worship “will not be entertained by the members of the church.”

The speakers for the convention were Dr Buno Iralu, Dr Adela Mero, Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho and Rev Dr Ezamo Murry. NBCC Executive Committee meeting and General Council Business sessions were two important aspect of the Convention apart from the evening worship services, Sunday worship service and small prayer group.

In the installation of new NBCC officers, Rev Dr Atsi Dolie was installed as the President of the NBCC with Tialemba Phom and Dr Niholi Shohe as the Vice Presidents.

The Council also thanked the Angami Baptist Church Council, the Associations and the Executive Secretaries under NBCC, program participants, delegates, well wishers, families and all who contributed toward the success of the programme.
