Zapami VDB constructs resource centre

The Resource Centre building was inaugurated at Pine Hill, Zapami village by Razukhru D Vasa, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Phek on May 5.

Zapami village under Pfutsero Sub Division of Phek district lies around 64 km from Kohima.

This resource centre was initiated by Village Development Board (VDB) Zapami and construction of the building has been materialized through the support of the department of rural development, Nagaland.

This resource centre will host all sort of camping activities, seminar, workshop and also serve as farmer school, instruction centre for artisans, entrepreneurs etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Vasa said that the creation of this resource centre will benefit many. He lauded the excellent performance of Zapami VDB and judicious utilization of funds being provided by the government. He lamented that government has been extending lots of fund to the villages but many fail to utilize the fund well its purpose.

He called upon other VDBs to adopt the model of Zapami for all round development. Appreciating the well-setting of Zapami village, he said the village is progressing in a systematic manner. As long as unity, good leadership and good vision prevail, the village would flourish, he said.

He also urged upon the village to capitalize their strength and potential to boost the economy of the masses.

As plea by Zapami Village Council, Chairman, Tewelhi Khutso for construction of hostel for boys and girls in the vicinity of the resource centre under 15th Finance Commission, the Project Director assured to recommend the same to the higher authority.

Vekhrolo Koza, Block Development Officer (BDO) Pfutsero, said that this resource centre is the first it’s kind at the VDB level in Phek district and lauded the good initiative of Zapami VDB. He maintained that the trekking route in this area will go a long way in promotion of eco-tourism. BDO was also appreciative of the Village Vision 2030 document, which main at making Zapami as “Smart Village.”

Zapami VDB Secretary, Kedoutsolhi Wetsa said that this resource centre is one of the components of Zapami Vision 2030.

The building was completed within 5 months at the total cost of Rs 24 lakh. He informed that Pine Hill boast 25,000 pine trees and surrounded by Rhododendron. The trekking route and splendid natural beauty in this location has potential to attract tourists, Wetsah said.

Chairing the function, Dr Riku Khutso, EAC Pfutsero said that this resource centre will also act as summer and winter school for students during vacation in imparting the art of handloom and handicraft and get them acquainted with customs and traditions, folklores, cultivation method etc.
