Phek, March 28 (MExN): The Chakhesang Youth Front undertook area tours on March 22 and 23, and held coordination meeting with its affiliated units at Chozuba Village, Pfutsero Town, and Phek Town respectively.

Altogether, 200 youth leaders from 62 units attended the coordination meetings, stated a press release issued by Nokho Nyekha, General Secretary, Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF).

The tour aimed to explore the realities at the grassroots level, and understand the everyday challenges faced by the youth leaders, especially in implementing the standing resolutions of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) regarding the conservation of biodiversity and the import ban of pigs in the Chakhesang jurisdiction.

The CYF also went for surprise checking within their jurisdiction, and confiscated a total of three hunting rifles. The team also caught hunters from other tribes, hunting in the reserved forests of the Chakhesang community, CYF stated.

It may be noted that any form of hunting, fishing with harmful equipments, extraction of medicinal plants, and import of unvaccinated piglets, and all pigs above 30 kgs is completely banned within the Chakhesang jurisdiction. The CYF shall continue to implement the CPO resolutions regarding the same, by penalising defaulters, for the greater interest of the community at large, it reiterated.

The youth front also stated that conserving nature and maintaining the integrity of ancestral forests remain the core activity of the CYF, in order to make sure that our biodiversity survives for generations to come. With the experiences from the tour, the team shall soon chart new measures to tackle the defaulters, and also raise consciousness among its citizens, and beyond.

“Taking in consideration the concerns shared by the youth leaders about the drug menace in the society, the CYF shall also discuss with the authorities and experts on the field very soon, in order to figure out how to best deal with the concerning situation at hand,” it added.
