‘Yoga is for all religion and race,’ says Nagaland Health Minister

“Let us remind ourselves that Yoga is not a religion, but it is for all religion and race. Let us practice Yoga and have a healthy body and healthy mind,” Nagaland Health & Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom said on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion as the special guest in the Yogatsav-countdown programme for International Day of Yoga under the theme ‘Yoga for Health’ at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW) on June 2, Pangyu said, “This year International Day of Yoga will be celebrated with the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity.’

He informed that June 21 was recognized as the International Day of Yoga by United National General Assembly in December 2014 at the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nagaland will too join International Day of Yoga with the rest of 193 countries on June 21, Pangyu informed.

Along with the health minister, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Deputy Speaker, T Yangseo Sangtam, other officials and staff of medical department and AYUSH doctors joined the Common Yoga Protocol session.

Dr Seyiekhrietuo John Zhale, State Programme Officer, National AYUSH Mission, Nagaland, led the session of Common Yoga Protocol. It was followed by two more session on ‘Yoga for Health’ and ‘Importance of Yoga.’ Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Dr Vikato Kinimi, principal director, DoH&FW.

The programme was organized by National AYUSH Mission Nagaland, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland in collaboration with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

In order to celebrate Yoga day in a grand manner, Morarji Dasai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH Government of India has organized Yoga Mahotsav- 2022 as an event to commemorate 100 days countdown from April 7 to June 21 across the globe.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of AYUSH, Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Indian Council for Cultural Relations are planning to come together to announce ‘My Yoga My Heritage’ similar to ‘My life- My Yoga.’
