WWII Peace Rally commemorates Battle of Kohima

Kohima, December 3 (MExN): The World War II Peace Rally commemorating the historic Battle of Kohima was held at the WWII Museum Complex in Kisama Heritage Village on December 2. The event saw participation from global and local dignitaries, with Mitchell Theaker, India Head of the Welsh Government and Partner Country Representative, serving as the chief guest.

The rally, envisioned by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, highlighted the importance of using history to promote peace, stated a DIPR report.

Abu Metha, Chairman of NAMSA and Advisor to the Chief Minister, emphasised the need to leverage the legacy of the war for fostering global harmony. Metha noted the significant contributions of the Nagas during the war, which led to transformative global changes. He called on attendees to serve as ambassadors of the Naga people and promote their story worldwide.

Mitchell Theaker lauded the shared bond between the Nagas and the Welsh people, urging the preservation and strengthening of this connection. He expressed hope that the event would serve as a bridge of peace and goodwill between the two communities, showcasing unity as a message to the world.

In his address, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio described the Battle of Kohima as a pivotal moment in Naga history, underscoring the devastating impact of war and the transformative power of peace. Rio stressed the need for Nagaland to advocate peace within the state, neighboring regions, and the global community. He encouraged the youth to sustain the peace rally initiative and affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Nagaland Flatfenders Club.

TJ Longkumer, IPS (Retd), and President of Nagaland Flatfenders Club, announced the battle report of the rally, including the winners.

Most original vehicle – Jeep number 6; Jeep 1 – 2nd prize and Jeep A – 3rd prize. Jeep 25 -best maintained vehicle, Jeep 11 – best weaponry, Jeep 18 – best uniform squad and Jeep 9 – best Tourism Promotion Squad.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to peace and the celebration of unity, paying tribute to the sacrifices and resilience of those who shaped the region’s history during World War II.
