‘Women also be given chance to make decision’: Dr Nicky Kire

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Central Women Organization today conducted a workshop on ‘Women’s health and wellness’ under the theme ‘a perfect women, makes the world beautiful’ at the conference hall of NDPP head office, Kohima.

Addressing the workshop, ex- MLA Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire maintained that woman’s health and wellness “is definitely the very core of our society.” In our Naga context, he said that women issue be it health, wellness, care givers are given much attention.

He suggested that a special health camp be initiated especially for women. “Women are the backbone of the family,” Dr. Kire said adding that they the caretaker of the family.

Stating that women have a lot of say in the family, he felt that “Women also be given chance to make decision.”

He stressed on the need to give enough chance to the women to come forward and share their issues including the society and the state issue.

Stating that there are now two women legislators -Hekani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse in the 14th house of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, he strongly felt that they must also take initiative and see how much they can also help out in the women issue. “We have to address all social, economic and political factors,” he said.

Dr Kire also stressed on the need to support women and enable them to perform much better.

Further, he looks forward women’s participation in the upcoming municipal elections which is likely to take place by April- May. “You can make a difference,” he said.

Make-up artist Christy Tsanglao talked on the topic “Personal grooming” for women. Earlier, NDPP CWO President Vikali A Zhimomi delivered welcome address. Nito Sheqi Swu and Nikato Tamang presented special numbers. Vote of thanks was proposed by N. Bendang Jamir, working president NDPP Central Executive Board. NDPP Central Youth Organization president Imchatoba Imchen also graced the programme.The programme was chaired by NDPP CWO Secretary Adv Achung N. Phom.
