Dimapur, April 12 (MExN): The Dimasa Students Union Nagaland held its 3rd Annual Sports Meet in Doyapur on April 8 and 9 under the theme ‘Football for Unity and Progress’ with YouthNet Founder and Nari Shakti Presidential awardee Hekani Jakhalu Kense as the special guest for the opening day event.
Ramesh Hasnu, President of Kachari Tribal Council was the special guest for the closing event while guests of honour included Kumar Naben, President of Dimasa Public Organization and John Mech of Mech Kachari Public Organization, according to a press release received here on Monday.
In her inaugural speech, special guest Hekani Jakhalu emphasized on the need for the Mech Kachari and Dimasa community under Doyapur and Dhansiripar area to be united in order to progress together with rest of the communities of Nagaland and participle in preparing for a new developed Nagaland. She stated that if Nagaland has to progress, all communities and tribe should be united, handhold each other and lift each other up. Every community and tribe is an equal stakeholder in building the state, she said, underscoring that there has to be inclusive growth. Even if one community is doing well and the other community is left behind, Nagaland cannot be called truly empowered, she said, while underlining that no tribe was too big or too small.
According to the release, Hekani who has committed the past 16 years to work with the youth of Nagaland and empower them, also challenged and appealed to the leaders, elders and parents of the Kachari community that top most importance has to be given to quality education for children of the community. There is no dearth of talent amongst the Kachari youth, but due to lack of education it is tending to remain behind, in spite of being close to the commercial capital Dimapur, she said.
She committed that YouthNet would extend all support to nurture and mentor the youth in the field of education, skill building and livelihood. She also assured to building an office space personally in her capacity for DSUN, which can be the center for working out various youth activities, in the future to ensure that vision plan road map was achieved, the release stated.
Noting the presence of various Government officials, prominent civil society organization leaders and private organizations, Hekani further stated that their presence showed not only their solidarity but also sends a strong message of unity and support to the Kachari Community to progress together ahead to greater heights in the future.
The other leaders of the community encouraged the participants to remain focused and work towards building a better future and continue working hard with determination and effort, the release stated.
Meanwhile, President DSUN Faiham stated that all the 15 Kachari villages were participating in the event and the objective is not only to encourage sports but also to use the event as an opportunity to come together in unity and form stronger bonds of friendship and relationship.
Highlights of the event included a special exhibition, cultural dances and indigenous games by the students of Doyapur.
