Sulanthang Lotha-led Naga Hoho team assumes offices

Senapati, March 1 (MExN):  A new executive council of the Naga Hoho headed by Sulanthang Lotha as the President was elected for the tenure 2024-2029 during its general session held at SM Sha complex hall Rikhumai Taphou Senapati on February 29

In his acceptance speech, Lotha expressed gratitude the entire Naga Hoho for choosing him to represent the organisation and assured that the new team office bearers’ supreme objective would be to work for unity among the Nagas.

Unity is the only way forward for the Nagas to march ahead, he added, quoting AZ Phizo “Nagas are one nation and people.”

As per a press release Lotha also reminded that the Naga Hoho always stood firm against all evil forces while protecting legitimate rights of Naga people and unification strife for all Naga areas. 
He also assured that the new team would maintain good relationship with all sections of people for the cause of the Naga people. 

The new president also maintained that the state of Nagaland has been “created with the blood and tears of many Naga household and therefore it belongs to the Nagas” but regretted that the Nagas have planted seeds of division among themselves by “creating borders between Nagas of Nagaland and Nagas from other region under the patronage of our adversaries.”

Accordingly, Lotha noted that the sense of oneness must come from the heart of every Naga national worker, politicians, civil leaders, tribe leaders and intellectuals at this crucial moment to unite the Nagas family to arrive at “our common destination.

He further stated that Naga political issue would continue to be the topmost priority of the new team as peace will not prevail in the region unless it is resolved. 

“The Naga struggle for self determination is a long held dream of united and inclusive future where all Naga tribes stand together in pursuit of common goals,” he also noted. 

By standing together united in the shared vision for the future, Lotha maintained that the Nagas can overcome any obstacles that stand in the way of their aspiration. 

The new president reminded the importance of understanding with the neighbouring communities and urged to draw strength from the shared history, culture, aspiration to work towards a future where all Nagas inhabited areas can live in peace, harmony and in dignity, the release said. 

Lotha also assured to continue the hard work for better understanding among communities to prevails and overcome any challenges that lie ahead.

He sought the support and participation in all their works for the common good.

The outgoing president HK Zhimomi also reminded the gathering the importance of unity with the common objective of the Nagas and  also narrated how Naga Hoho was formed back in 1998 in Zunheboto Nagaland.

Meanwhile, earlier, Inavi Swu convener Search Committee read out the nominated office bearers of the Naga Hoho for the tenure 2024-2029 of the various positions. Ng. Lorho, Pauheu Newme and L Wanglat were the members of the committee. 

The delegates present, thereafter, raise their hands as the sign of agreed and support to the new team.  

Apart from the Lotha, the other office bearers are Atoho K Kiho-General Secretary (Sumi tribe,  Nagaland); RD David Boyes (Anal Tribe, Manipur)- Vice President;  Komral Longphi  (Tangsa Tribe, Arunachal Pradesh)- Secretary; Vikugha Pucho (Sumi tribe, Nagaland)-Secretary Finance; SP Raili (Poumai Tribe, Manipur) -Secretary Information and Publicity; Pauheu Newme (Zeme Tribe NC Hills Assam)- Speaker; and David Rengma (N Rengma Assam State) -Customary Affairs Secretary.

The posts of second Vice President and Secretary have been left vacant and reserved for Central Nagaland, the release said. The post of Deputy Speaker has also been left vacant.
The Naga Hoho general session was attended by around hundred members including United Naga Council Members, Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Naga Tribe Representatives from Assam, Arunachal, Nagaland, Manipur and others, the release added.
