DIMAPUR , September 14: Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) training programme on Vermi-composting was inaugurated on September 13. The training which is organised by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad would conclude on September 18.
In a press release, SAMETI Medziphema informed that during the programme, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Dr. Watimongla Jamir highlighted the importance of manure in farming.
She also talked about the programme and how it would enable trainees to start producing manure by converting their kitchen and surrounding wastes into vermicompost. She pointed out that the training programme would not only help them in generating employment and income but would also be beneficial for the environment.
The director further encouraged the participants to follow up the training programme with tangible results.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by deputy project director SAMETI, Tiajungla Longchar, who welcomed the participants and gave a brief introduction about the programme.
Meanwhile, accountant SAMETI Ato V. Chishi delivered the vote of thanks. Officials from department of agriculture also attended the program.
It may be mentioned that the programme is aimed at imparting skill-based training to rural youth in the age group of 18-40 years on agri and allied based vocational areas to promote employment.
