Kohima, June 4 (MExN): A state level committee meeting for the New India @75-Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav conducted in eight high HIV prevalent districts, was held in Kohima on June 3.
Chaired by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) Chairperson and Principal Secretary for Nagaland Department of Health & Family Welfare Amardeep S Bhatia, the meeting was attended by representatives from the department of DIPR, Social Welfare, All India Radio Kohima (AIR), Doordarshan Kendra Kohima (DDK), Higher Education, Technical Education, NBSE, SCERT, Youth Resources and Sports and PIB Kohima, a press release informed on Friday.
According to the release, the meeting was held to highlight the achievements of New India @75-Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav conducted in eight high HIV prevalent districts—Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Noklak, Phek, Peren, Tuensang and Kiphire. The events were held in three phases on three themes namely; HIV, TB and Blood donation and District Level Committees were set up under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner in each identified district to carry out the activities, the release stated.
The presentation on the overall achievements was given by Thejangunuo Theunuo, Deputy Director (IEC), NSACS, who highlighted that the campaign was carried out in three phased manners from August 2021 to March 2022 in the 75 identified schools and 75 identified Colleges/Institute/Higher Secondary Schools (the 75 number each in consonance with the 75 years of India independence) in the identified districts.
Through the awareness programme, a total of 16,264 students (youth and adolescents) were reached, the release stated.
During the various competitions that were conducted (Paint your thought, Voice your thought, publicize your thought, Film your thought, etc), a total of 1,212 students took part and 479 students were declared winners. The publicity of the campaign was supported by DDK, AIR, PIB and DIPR, it said.
On the occasion, Metevinuo Sakkrie, Joint Director (IEC), NSACS thanked each district level committee headed by the Deputy Commissioners for proactively carrying out the activities and accomplishing the campaign. She also thanked the members present for their support and coordination.
As per the release, the concept of the campaign is an initiative of the Government of India to commemorate 75 years of India Independence. In support, National AIDS Control Organisation, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has planned the New India@75 campaign on three phased manners namely; HIV, TB and Blood donation. Nagaland State AIDS Control Society has carried out the campaign in coordination with the concerned departments, it stated.
