The body of the second person, feared drowned after a boat capsized incident on May 27 at Doyang Dam, was recovered Thursday at around 9:55 AM.

The body of the deceased, identified as Thungchio Patton (24 years), was recovered after an extensive search lasting nearly 3 and a half hours, concluding at approximately 9:55 AM.

Divers descended to a depth of approximately 75 feet and successfully located and retrieved the remains. Patton, along with Elanthung Ngullie, went missing on May 27 after the boat they were traveling in capsized, reportedly due to strong winds. Ngullie’s remains were retrieved on May 29.

Inspector Vikhodi Rhetso, 12 Battalion NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), stated that the search operation resumed at 6:20 AM Thursday morning.

He informed that two IRBs (Inflated Rubber Boats) and deep diver equipment such as oxygen cylinders were utilised during the search operation by the rescue team.

Several challenges, such as trees, fishing nets, and bamboo in the reservoir, were encountered along with cold water at depths of 60 to 70 feet, making breathing difficult for the divers despite being equipped with oxygen gear, he added.

Rhetso, meanwhile, urged the general public to prioritise safety when ferrying on engine or locally made boats by wearing life jackets or using improvised crafts made from plastic bottles or thermocol, especially during heavy waves.

He also advised every individual to be cautious to prevent such incident from occurring in the future.
