DIMAPUR, April 1 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) on Sunday termed the arrest of Bahar Uddin, the “Drug lord of the North east” as a timely reminder to the Naga people the “kind of government one should elect.”
It alleged that Bahar Uddin is a “creation of the lawlessness and corruption which has come to define the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio since he took over the helms of the state in 2003.”
The RPP also sought to remind that the ‘War on Drugs’ was declared by Nagaland Police under the initiative of the present DGP Rupin Sharma and has finally culminated in the kingpin being arrested though the war may continue for some time.
It also added that the ‘War on Drugs’ is the sole idea and initiative of Nagaland police led by the DGP and has nothing to do with PDA policy, “for as far as law and order and rule of law are concerned the state government has long vanished – since time immemorial.”
“Bahar Uddin had been running his drugs empire for decades operating out of Dimapur, and until his arrest in a joint operation between Nagaland and Assam police on March 22, it can be safely assumed that he was given ‘protection’ by corrupted politicians and police, and ‘legitimized elements’ operating freely in Dimapur,” the RPP alleged.
In this context, the RPP said it is important that Nagaland police reveal the results of its preliminary investigation, particularly the names of those persons and organisations who are in his payroll.
It stated that apart from the news of his arrest, the police have not divulged any details till date and the “public cannot help but speculate that Nagaland police is under some sort of political pressure to dilute the case.”
Therefore, under the circumstance, the police may well do to hand over the case to the NIA, which at least, should negate the cloud of political interference, the RPP stated.
It also challenged the PDA government to attach the accused person’s properties under the relevant section of the law dealing with drugs and psychotropic substances with immediate effect.
TUD lauds Nagaland police for arrest of NE drug kingpin
The Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) has lauded the Nagaland Police and Dimapur Commissioner of Police for arresting North East drug kingpin Bahurudin and his henchmen from Sonitpur on March 23.
A press statement issued by media cell, TUD said such prompt actions require dedication and commitment which is aptly displayed by the Nagaland Police. The Union also expressed shock to hear that Baharudin served as the president of New Market Jama Masjid and wondered how such an unscrupulous person was allowed to serve in a religious platform.
While affirming that it shall continue to give our best cooperation in cracking down such anti social elements in the society, the TUD has appealed to the authorities to leave no stone unturned in investigating the matter till the end. It also warned against any individuals who initiates for his release. The Union further appealed to all the civil societies and individuals to stand united against such anti social elements.
