DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 15 (MExN): Backdropped by a series of monsoon-induced water-logging in Dimapur, the Rising People’s Party (RPP) trained the gun on the NDPP-BJP government alleging the latter of misplaced priorities.

“Dimapur, once the fastest growing city in the entire NE, is now being left behind to rot,” it said, while censuring the government’s recent proposal to build a planned city in the Chathe valley. It added, “Apart from the question of sustainability, it does not take a rocket scientist to fathom who’ll benefit from the works.”

Linking the annual dengue outbreaks to flooding and clogged drainages, it said that the government should be cancelling land ‘pattas’ (deeds) issued over swamps and sewages and demolishing illegal structures. In the meantime, it demanded that the government and the MLAs representing Dimapur should concentrate all their energy to in revamp the drainage system.

The recent deluge had also flooded the Dimapur airport. On this, it queried as to what is stopping the government from evicting encroachers. “The responsibility of any government is to take iron-willed decisions but the Monsoon Session of the 14th NLA has simply shown the limitations of an opposition-less government,” it said.

According to the RPP, Dimapur airport as well, Nagaland would have had an International Airport by now,if the government has displayed the same level of determination as in pursuing the proposed Chiethu Airport in Kohima,
