R-Day: 3 police, 1 fire service personnel from Nagaland awarded medals

Three police and one fire service personnel from Nagaland have been honoured with various service medals announced on Wednesday by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the occasion of the Republic Day 2023. 

The list of awardees for the police, Fire Service Home Guards (HG) and Civil Defence (CD) medals were announced separately by the MHA.

 Among the police personnel from Nagaland, Etssimongo Ngullie, IPS, DIG (Range) Mokokchung received the top honour, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) for ‘special distinguished record in Police Service.’ 

The other two police personnel – Israel G Xuivi, Deputy Commandant 6th NAP Bn Tizit & Abel Jonsou Humtsoe, UB Inspector, Int Hq Kohima, Nagaland, were awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).

The Meritorious Service medals are given for ‘valuable service characterized by resource.’ 

A total of 901 police personnel were awarded the police medals, comprising of 140 Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 93 PPM, and 668 PM. Among the personnel receiving gallantry awards, 48 were from CRPF, 31 from Maharashtra, 25 from J&K Police, 9 from Jharkhand, 7 are each from Delhi, Chhattisgarh & BSF and the remaining from other States/UTs and CAPFs. 

Meanwhile, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Fire &Emergency Services) Nagaland, Zhasalie Napranotsu was also conferred the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service. 

All together 47 personnel were awarded the fire service medals, including two for gallantry, 7 for distinguished services, and 30 for meritorious records of services. In addition, 55 personnel were also awarded Home Guard & Civil Defence.”
