Putuonuo Hospital introduces free cancer clinic in Kohima

On the eve of the National Cancer Survivors Day, Putuonuo Hospital with support from Rev Moa Longchari Cancer Foundation and Dr K&T Keditsu Foundation introduced Free Cancer Clinic at Putuonuo Hospital, Daklane, Kohima on Saturday.

The clinic was formally unveiled by Khrienuo Rio Moa, founder Rev Moa Longchari Cancer Foundation and Dr Toshevi Sema Keditsu, co-founder, Dr K &T Keditsu Foundation.

The aim of the clinic is to create cancer awareness, encourage health seeking behaviour and to detect cancer at an early stage or precancerous stage.

The Free Cancer Clinic includes one-time free consultation by oncologists and physical examination, free cancer screening for mouth (oral), breast cancer and cervical cancer.

Anyone who is symptom-free (no complaints) or has some complaints and wish to consult or screen for the above can avail the service. This Free Cancer Clinic is accessible every Thursday (2 – 4 PM) at Putuonuo Hospital.

All tests will be conducted by trained group of specialists, oncology nurses and technicians.

Dr Keduovinuo Keditsu, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, Putuonuo Hospital said that previously treated cancer patients and those currently diagnosed cancer patients or those under treatment are not eligible for the free cancer clinic.

‘Stay positive’

The launching ceremony of the Free Cancer Clinic also coincided with National Cancer Survivors Day and thanksgiving with cancer survivors and caregivers.

National Cancer Survivors Day is celebrated annually on the first Sunday in June.

Through National Cancer Survivors Day, Dr Dziesebeinuo Khezhie said “we want to honour those who battle cancer, celebrate the courage of survivors and also remember the loved one’s who have lost to disease.”

Talking on “Reflections from a caregiver,” Khrienuo Rio Moa, wife of late Rev Moa Longchari stressed on the need to “stay positive” and not to lose hope in tough times. God is always with us throughout our journey, she said. Be an encourager to other patients or people who are suffering, Khrienuo added.

Samuel Venuh and Kekhrieletso Kelio also shared testimony at the programme.

Dr K&T Keditsu Foundation
This Foundation is eponymous to a couple Kezevituo and Toshevi (K&T) Keditsu.

As medical doctors, Kezevituo and Toshevi have been involved in charitable work over the last 30 years, conducting medical camps, supporting women employment, providing financial support for the education of children from underprivileged communities, and supporting the development of rural areas by providing microfinance, clean drinking water, and building toilets.

The primary objectives of the Foundation are service to the rural and underprivileged areas of North-East India through medical aid, women empowerment, education, environment preservation and rural development.

Rev Moa Longchari Cancer Foundation
This Foundation was launched in memory of Late Rev Moa Longchari. The mission of the Foundation is to reduce cancer mortality rate across Nagaland through awareness, prevention, and early-detection.

It also provide counselling for patients throughout their recovery and encourage them to live a full-life during and after their treatment and to collaborate with doctors, hospitals, and volunteers to maximize the effectiveness of spreading awareness and treatments for patients.
