Western Angami Youth Organisation submits 3-point demands to Kohima DC

Hundreds joined the peaceful public rally organised by the Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) against alleged murder of Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou by two youths on May 18.

Miasalhou had succumbed to injury on May 19 following an incident alleged to be a case of violent road rage, which occurred in Kohima on May 18.

During a programme held prior to submitting a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Phoolbari Junction today, leaders of various organisations delivered solidarity messages. The rally saw hundred from different organisations especially Angami areas, carrying placards, demanding justice and respect elders, among others.

Speeches were delivered by President, Western Angami Youth Organisation, Neitolie Khrietuo Peseyie; Kepelhoutuo Chüsi, President, Western Angami Public Organisation; Metekhrielie Mejura, President, Southern Angami Youth Organisation; Seyieneilhou Keyho, President, Chakhroma Youth Organisation; Kevizelie Pienyü; Vice President, Northern Angami Youth Organisation; Kesosul Christopher Ltu, President, Angami Youth Organisation; Khrielievi Chüsi, General Secretary, Mezomia Mechü Kehou.

The programme was chaired was Neidilhoutuo Neibu Sechü, General Secretary, Angami Youth Organisation.
Some messages in the placards read: ‘Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied,’ ‘We Demand Justice,’ ‘Respect Elders,’ ‘All Roads Are Not Yours,’ ‘Am I Next,’ ‘Don’t Bail Out The Killer.’

Kohima town areas came to a standstill as shops downed shutters to display solidarity and vehicles in the highway were halted.
Businesses informed that shops were closed till 2.00 pm today.

As per the district administration, the rally was peace and no untoward was reported.

Meanwhile, in the memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the WAYO expressed anguish over “the murder of Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou, Political Assistant to Deputy Commissioner, Kohima on 18th May 2024 at Phoolbari, Kohima, by two young youth namely Neizosetuo Kire and Khrietsonyu Whuorie, both from Kohima village.”

“As per Naga tradition, it is the duty of the elders to reprimand and correct young people for their misdemeanor. However, it is unfathomable and barbaric for young people to react with brute force to the extent of taking an elder’s life,” it added.

While urging the district administration to treat this case with outmost seriousness so that justice is delivered at the earliest, the WAYO 3-point demand called for immediate arrest of the two culprits; booking them under all relevant sections of the law and giving exemplary punishment; and no bail under any circumstances.

The WAYO cautioned warned that if any person or group tries to bail them out, they will be held responsible for any untoward consequences.

In must be noted here that two persons have been arrested by the Kohima Police, in connection to the death.

Accordingly, a criminal case has been registered U/S 323/325/352/302 IPC in North Police Station, Kohima.
