Longleng, October 12 (MExN): The Phom Gazetted Officers Association (PGOA), in collaboration with YouthNet and the Phom Students’ Conference, organized a two-day Career Guidance Seminar under the theme “Embrace. Evolve. Succeed.” Held on October 10 and 11 at the Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) conference hall, the event aimed to equip youth in Longleng District with tools for personal and professional growth.

The seminar began with an invocation prayer by PBCA Prayer Home Pastor Aumei Phom, setting a reflective tone for the event. Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, NCS, delivered the inaugural address, acknowledging YouthNet and the PGOA team for their commitment to empowering young people. He noted, “This seminar is a valuable opportunity to help students discover their potential. While we often blame the system, it is crucial for young people to take responsibility, face challenges head-on, and adapt to opportunities.”

Phom encouraged students to consider paths beyond government jobs, highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship as a means to contribute to society. “As government employees, we primarily support our families, but as entrepreneurs, we uplift society and create jobs for others,” he remarked. He also assured attendees of the government’s support for future initiatives benefiting the youth.

The program featured short speeches from Y.P. Angam, President of Phom People’s Council, and Dape Phom, President of Phom Students’ Conference. Chidok Phom, President of PGOA, delivered the welcome address, while T. Longlang chaired the sessions. Moishen, AGS of PGOA, concluded the inaugural program with a vote of thanks.

On the first day, facilitator Esther Angami led a session on self-understanding, addressing topics such as interests, abilities, and influencers. C. Kongden then guided students through tools for self-assessment, including SWOT analysis, the Multiple Intelligence Framework, and personality tests. Day two featured Johilo Kath, who explored career development and skill-building, and Sutiba Sangtam, who discussed career decision-making and higher education options.

The event drew 119 students.
