Phek, May 9 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP) Phek district today urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to immediately address the poor condition of the Kohima-Jessami road, particularly between Chakhaba and Kikruma.
The stretch, which is under package of the Kohima-Jessami road construction, is the lifeline of Phek district and several other districts in Nagaland, the party said.
As per the NPP Phek, for more than two years Chakhaba- Kikruma stretch has been almost ‘impassable’ but the problem is being completely neglected.
Various organisations and individuals have time and again raised their concerns over the issue but the concerned authority has not paid any heed to it, it maintained.
Accordingly, the road is now full of muddy patches, dust and potholes and posed threat to the lives of the commuters, it added.
With the onset of monsoon, it further expressed apprehension that the stretch may again become a “nightmare for the commuters.”
The NPP Phek further claimed that while the service of previous contractor M/S KCPL was terminated and the work was awarded to M/s Ratna infra Projects Pvt. Ltd with January 5, 2024 as “appointed date,” there is no sign of road construction.
Even though several months have passed since the award of the project, the contractor has shown minimal concern for maintaining the road to ensure its usability, it added.
Accordingly, it called upon the NHIDCL to immediately give its special attention to Chakhaba- Kikruma stretch of road with utmost importance.
Further reminding the contractor that its previous ventures in Nagaland were futile and should not be repeated, the NPP Phek asked the former commence with the awarded work without any further delay.
