The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) welcomed its new office bearers of the party’s Minority Department at an induction ceremony here at the Dimapur Congress Committee office on January 22 attended by its central committee leaders, state party leaders and workers.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ajoy Kumar, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Nagaland, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh stressed on the need for party workers to begin active preparation for the upcoming elections in the state. He alleged that the level of corruption has risen to such an unprecedented rate in the state under the current government. “Now that elections are coming up in Nagaland, it is important that everyone start getting active in the field especially in social media,” he said.
He mentioned that as the state has a substantial number of minority communities across the districts, it is up to the workers to reach out to them for garnering support.
Runith D’Mellow, in-charge of Nagaland Minority department, AICC meanwhile criticised the BJP-ruled states of persecuting their minorities and stated that the same fate would befall the state if they were elected to power. He called-upon all sensible individuals to form a united front against the BJP’s “religion based politics,” and uphold secularism.
Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary, regretted that although the non-Naga communities particularly in Dimapur, were the most industrious, the current government has ignored their well-being and were overburdened with multiple taxes. “This minority department is here to cater to the needs and aspirations of the non-Naga population,” he stated.
The new inducted office bearers were, Ata Tapadar, Vice Chairperson (Muslim community, Rajkumar Dey, Vice Chairperson (Bengali community), Samsher Singh, Vice Chairperson (Punjabi community) and Meikhomlung Rongmei (State coordinator, social media).
The district specific office bearers were—Dimapur (Suresh Jain, Secretary; Wahid Ali, Assistant Secretary); Chümoukedima (Najrul Islam, President; Sarfraj Islam, Vice-President); Kohima (Shakti Paswan, President; Dilip Kumar and Sonu Kumar as Secretaries).
