The NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, Suman Kumar Bery inaugurated a first of its kind, the Histopathology unit at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima under the initiative of Investment and Development Authority Nagaland (IDAN) and the Department of Health and family Welfare (DoHFW), Nagaland on March 12.
At the inaugural programme, NHAK Managing Director, Dr Sendimeren Aonok said that it was a historic moment for the state under the banner-ship of Prime Minister and CSR projects. He also said that it is the first histopathology unit that has been installed under the CSR program, which was sponsored by Numaligarh Refinery Limited.
Crucial for a number of services that involve examining the tissues and ultimately detect diseases through sophisticated techniques and expert evaluation by pathology, the Histopathology Unit is equipped with automatic tissue processor, embedding station, cooling plate, manual microtome, tissue flotation bath, grossing instruments, cytocentrifuge among a host of other equipment.
Niti Aayog, Vice President, Suman Kumar Bery, speaking after unveiling the plague outside the Pathology Department, opined that CSR initiatives which are undertaken in collaboration by different agencies both outside and of the state makes enormous difference.
He called the CSR projects to be focused in the mobilization of the CSR and being credible which points to being timely.
Speaking about Niti Aayog, India’s think tank, he said governing council where chief ministers of all states are members, come together in a carefully prepared meeting to debate the way forward for development. These state leaders, Bery said put aside political differences and become team India and essentially dedicate themselves to the welfare of the citizens in the state, collectively to a noble cause of raising India to it’s worth.
He mentioned that one of the striking examples of the progress India has made in size of the economy is that it has fifth largest economy in the world. In addition, looking at the multi-dimensional poverty index, in the last 20-25 years, millions of people have escaped poverty.
In tandem to the Niti Aayog, the Vice Chairman commented it looks at the aspiration and challenges of making India, a Vikshit Bharat by 2047.
“Becoming a Viksit Bharat by becoming not just a large economy but a modern economy which is able to ensure a decent standard of living for its citizens,” Bery said while adding that new installation such of today was part of the larger framework for attaining the goals of Vikshit Bharat.
He additionally said Niti Aayog is to share best practices and best practices at the level suited and relevant for the state, the later to become a common practice across the states.
Giving introduction of the project, IDAN Joint Secretary Reny Wilfred, said that projects of this kind have been brought to Nagaland through Corporate Social Responsibility schemes 2022-2023.
The Health and Family Welfare Department had 24 projects listed under priority to send to PSUs for investment through IDAN.
The Doctors for You organization were the implementing agency for ensuring setting up of the unit.
An umbrella MoU was signed to ensure that manpower, capacity building and training was provided as part of the implementation. The project includes three years of monitoring support.
Short speeches were delivered by funding and agencies and partners, Dr Kajal Saikia, Chief General Manager, HR & Legal, Numaligarh Refinery Limited and Dr Rajat Jain, President, Doctors for You.
Earlier the programme was chaired by NHAK Managing Director Dr Sendimeren Aonok and Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland V Kezo delivered vote of thanks.
During the programme, an MoU was also signed between five key stakeholders including Doctors For You, Principal Director of Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, Joint Secretary of IDAN, Additional Secretary of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, and Nursing School at District Hospital Mokokchung for up-gradation of existing General Nursing and Midwifery Nursing School into a state-of-the-art B.Sc Nursing College.
During the engagement period of 15 years, the NGO will bring funds through CSR. After the 15 years period of contract, it will be handed back to the college. The existing GNM School will accommodate up to 60 seats in the B.Sc Nursing College at Mokokchung, operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
