KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 11 (MExN): The NH-29 between Kohima and Dimapur will be opened for commuters between 6:00am and 10:00am for light vehicles and between 2:00pm and 5:00pm for both heavy and light everyday from February 12 onwards.

This was decided after a meeting to review the traffic restriction which was put in place following rockslides on the New Chümoukedima segment of National Highway 29 last week.

During the meeting held on Thursday, the Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi expressed his concerns over the “untold hardships to the public due to continuing traffic restrictions on the highway.” The Governor also conveyed his displeasure to the contractors for “reckless rock blasting which is the cause of the heavy rock slide,” informed a press release from the PRO to the Governor.

He advised the State Government to explore legal actions and hold the erring contractors accountable for their reckless acts.

After elaborate deliberations and due regard to the safety needs of the commuters, it was decided that total restriction on traffic was no longer required and the new traffic regulations were decided on.

Meanwhile, it was agreed that the NHIDCL will ensure that the contractors place enough resources on the ground and take sufficient measures to stabilize the rocks and clear the debris without delay. The Dimapur District Administration will review the situation after one week for further easing the traffic.
