As a sign of the growing number of tourists visiting Nagaland, ‘Shulem Boutique Hotel’ located at Zeliangrong colony, near Dobhinalla road Dimapur was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minster, TR Zeliang on February 18.
The name ‘Shulem’ which often is used interchangeably with the Hebrew word, ‘shalom’ means peace, said Chairman of the hotel, Kelei Zeling (IAS retired). While most buildings are built by reinforced cement concrete (RCC), he said the hotel’s structure has been made using steel and AAC blocks (autoclaved aerated concrete). With Nagaland being located within the Zone V category of earthquakes, “the builders had assured that the building can withstand a 9 Richter scale earthquake,” he said. It has a total of three floors, 17 rooms including four suits. “Not just for business prospects, the endeavor is also aimed at providing employment opportunities to the youths as well,” he said.
TR Zeliang meanwhile in his address viewed that among all the business ventures, running a hotel is considered one of the most difficult tasks to do. He said Nagaland still lacks good number of hotels be it in Dimapur or Kohima. This can be seen especially during the Hornbill festival when providing accommodation to visiting dignitaries can be challenging for the government.
The hotel industry is crucial for promoting tourism in the state, he mentioned. It has the potential to generate huge employment opportunities for unemployed youths while boosting tourism footfall. “If you manage it will, there will be no dearth of customers.” As such, he reminded the staffs to be consistent and dedicated in their work, while providing the best services for the guests.
“Managing a hotel is similar to running a government,” he said, which includes several responsibilities given to different employees. Nevertheless, Zeliang appreciated the owner and his staffs for the new venture and for transforming his personal vision into a reality.
A dedicatory prayer for the new Shulem Boutique Hotel was delivered by Rev Dr Rabi Pame.
