Need quality healthcare services within our hometowns: Rio

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday emphasized the need for quality health care services within the state, while highlighting the importance of reducing the need for residents to travel outside for medical care. 

Speaking at the inauguration of the Putuonuo Hospital complex at Kohima, Daklane colony, Rio elaborated that accessing healthcare services outside not only involves the patient but the families and caregivers and, therefore, gaining access to healthcare services at our doorstep fulfills many needs of the community. 

The chief minister also recalled how Putuonuo Hospital, which began as a nursing home 34 years ago, became the first private family run inpatient hospital in Kohima. He said the hospital has set a benchmark for its dedication put towards patient-centric care and community well-being. 

Today the occasion is beyond inaugurating a building, but a legacy of care, dedication & community and added that it provides a sense of belonging, building trust with not just healthcare workers but the community, he underscored. 

“Equipped with latest medical technology, the new complex is a significant milestone in the hospital’s journey and a testament to the unwavering dedication of the hospital’s founders, staff and the entire community. It symbolizes the hospital’s commitment to highest standard of care,” the chief minister remarked. 

He lauded the founding family for their vision in creating an institution of excellence in healthcare and the hospital’s staff, for their compassion and professionalism. 

Earlier, Managing Director of Putuonuo Hospital, Dr Kezevituo Keditsu delivered the director’s address. Documentaries on Putuonuo through the years and at a glance were screened during the programme. 

Thanksgiving prayer was pronounced by Rev Kedo Peseyie, senior pastor, City Church, Kohima and Medical Director, Dr Thejavinuo Keditsu Kire gave the vote of thanks.
