Tseminyu, Dec 1 (MExN): The Rengma Nagas celebrated Ngada festival at RSA Ground Tseminyu with Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye as special guest.
In his address, he said Nagas are a significant ethnic group, and are deeply rooted in the tradition and culture of the forefathers which is distinct. On the importance of cultural practices and tradition, he said “only the most foolish people forget their tradition and culture.”
He said that the good culture and tradition is fast eroding from Naga society with modernization and westernization. The Minister also called upon the people of the newly created district of the state to extend cooperation to the government under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and work together for the development and progress of the state.
As the host of the celebration, MLA and Chairman of DPDB Jwenga Seb said Ngada festival holds a special place in the hearts of Rengma people as it is a time of thanksgiving and rejoicing. “It is a festival deeply rooted in our agricultural heritage, symbolizing the end of the harvest season and the abundance that nature has bestowed upon us,” he said. “This festival is not just a mere gathering, but a time for us to come together as a community, to dance, sing, and celebrate the bountiful blessings we have received. It is a time to reflect on the hard work and dedication that went into cultivating our lands, and to express our gratitude for the fruitful outcomes,” he said.
Ngada festival is also a time for forgiveness and reconciliation, he said, adding that it is a reminder for us to let go of any grievances or misunderstandings that may have arisen throughout the year, and to embrace a spirit of unity and harmony.
Seb also called upon all to use this festival as an opportunity to mend broken relationships and strengthen the bonds of friendship and kinship.
Rengma Hoho President, Tesinlo Semy delivered the welcome address while leaders of Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Tenyimi Union Nagaland, Angami Public Organization, Lotha Hoho and Sümi Hoho shared greetings on the occasion.
Chaired by Ngada organizing committee member secretary Akhu Kath the celebration commenced with prayer by Executive Secretary of Council of Rengma Baptist Churches, Rev Haiwalo Apon.
The occasion was also marked with pledge on Tseminyu District Green Initiative led by its member secretary Ruchinilo Kemp. Cultural troupes of the seven ranges under Tseminyu district mesmerized the celebrants with different cultural performances while The Willing Souls also enthralled the gathering with folk fusion.
Rengma Officers Forum President, Changato Kath tendered the vote of thanks while Pastor of Phenshunyu Baptist Church Rev Isac Kesen offered prayer for Ngada feast.
The two-day celebration which commenced on Tuesday concluded tonight with Ngada music fest in the evening with Additional Deputy Commissioner Tseminyu, Longasen Lotha as special guest. It featured Moko Koza, Brahmos, Ethnic Fusion & local artists with TaFMA Tseminyu chapter as event managers.
