Nagaland Rural Bank continues fostering self-reliance & empowerment of citizens

Kohima, September 5 (MExN): Nagaland Rural Bank organised the felicitation programme of SHGs promoted by Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) to commemorate the 77th Independence Day 2023 at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima on September 4. 

A press release issued by PRO Raj Bhavan, Kohima stated that in attendance were officials from the NSRLM and the Nagaland Rural Bank, representatives of SHGs, officials and staff of Raj Bhavan.

 

The Governor, in his address appreciated Nagaland Rural Bank for continuing the tradition of serving the society in a unique and impactful way. “It is heartening to witness the bank’s dedication towards fostering self-reliance and empowerment among the citizens of Nagaland through its support to SHGs, facilitated by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission. This initiative not only reflects the bank’s visionary approach but also aligns perfectly with the spirit of national development and prosperity,” he said.

Such collaborations foster a sense of community and shared responsibility and also said that the support of the Central Government, Nagaland State Government and the State Bank of India in sponsoring and nurturing this bank is a testament to the power of collaboration and collective progress, the Governor remarked. 

Meanwhile, the Governor commended the SHGs for their determination and perseverance and added that “their efforts will yield positive results not just for themselves but for the entire state.”

 

The Nagaland Rural Bank sanctioned a cheque of rupees two crore, twenty three lakh and seventy four thousand. The loan was handed over by the Governor to the NSRLM Mission Director for the purpose of supporting the SHGs. The Governor also distributed sanction letters to the SHGs.  

Joint Secretary to Government of Nagaland & Mission Director, NSRLM Imtimenla, NCS in the opening remark gave a detailed history about how a handful of rural women came together to form SHGs in 2013 and today it stands at 15900 SHGs managed by 1.30 Lakh rural women. She revealed that many have become first generation rural entrepreneurs and many youth who were given residential skill development are currently employed in various companies across the country. 

Nagaland Rural Bank, Chairman, VV Narayana in his welcome addressed said that the bank has sectioned 120 SHGs loans, totaling to an amount of Rs 223.70 lakh. Imsunsangla, President, Grace SHG Dimapur shared her experience while the programme was conducted by Chankimenla, Nagaland Rural Bank and vote of thanks was pronounced by GM, Nagaland Rural Bank, Pemmichon Nakhedei.
