Nagaland: Record 96.25% voter turnout in Tapi bye-election

Kohima, November 8 (MExN): The bye-election for the 43-Tapi Assembly Constituency was held peacefully on November 7, with a record turnout of over 96%.

Electors exercised their franchise at all 23 polling stations, and at the close of the poll at 4 PM, the voter turnout ratio stood at 96.25%, informed an official release from the Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer, Vyasan R.

The polling was incident-free and peaceful, it added.

The bye-election will decide the fate of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate Wangpang Konyak and the Indian National Congress’ Wanglem Konyak.

Wangpang is also the consensus candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance of Nagaland. 

The bye-election became necessary due to the demise of NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28.
