The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee (CEC) “will be sittings in the next two days” in New Delhi to decide the candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Nagaland, reliable sources from the party informed The Morung Express on Saturday.

The Nagaland State BJP President, Temjen Inma Along and senior party leader & Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton will go to Delhi for the final sitting, the source added.

The source also affirmed that the 40-20 seat-sharing between the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP is intact, despite protests from some quarters in recent days, particularly from latter ‘party members’.

“40-20 it has always been-only the media speculated,” the source asserted.

“It’s about the candidate selections now,” the source added, when queried on matter to be discussed at the scheduled meeting.

The NDPP as well as the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, in the recent past, have also consistently maintained that the seat-sharing formula is ‘intact’ and continuing the 2018 pre-poll alliance between the BJP and NDPP in the 2023 election.

Meanwhile, the BJP Nagaland’s State Election Committee also held a meeting to discuss the ensuing Nagaland Legislative Assembly election 2023, informed an update from the party on its official Twitter handle.

The meeting, chaired by State President Inma Along, among others, was attended by Patton; Ministers— Jacob Zhimomi and S Pangnyu Phom; Advisor &  BJP National Spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon, MP (Rajya Sabha) & President BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland, S Phangnon Konyak; and National Spokesperson & Nagaland In-charge, Nalin Kohli.
