Kohima, October 18 (MExN): The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, held a meeting on October 17 to review the state’s preparedness against Mpox (Monkeypox) following its designation as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO). The meeting was chaired by Anoop Khinchi, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Department of Health and Family Welfare.
During the meeting, members of the State Health Emergency Operation Centre Committee provided an update on the state’s current level of preparedness to manage a potential Mpox outbreak. Health department officials presented details on readiness measures across health units throughout Nagaland. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of comprehensive preparedness by healthcare workers at all levels, urging them to ensure that the state is equipped to respond effectively to any detected cases of Mpox.
Khinchi stressed the need for health units across the state to be vigilant and proactive in order to mitigate the impact of a potential outbreak. He called for prompt implementation of precautionary measures to safeguard public health.
Dr. E. Motsuthung Patton, Principal Director of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, underscored the department’s commitment to safeguarding the health of citizens and affirmed that the department is prepared to take all necessary steps in addressing any Mpox cases within the state.
