The Congress Party will contest in all five assembly constituencies (ACs) of Dimapur-Chümoukedima-Niuland area for the upcoming the 2023 state assembly elections, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), President K Therie revealed on Sunday. The ACs are Dimapur I, II and III as well as Ghaspani-I and II.
Addressing a press conference during the induction of new office bearers of the Minority Department at the Dimapur Congress Committee office, he expressed confident that the party could garner support from them this time around with Dimapur and the adjoining districts possessing a sizeable number of minority community voters.
“Congress has a very good scheme for the minorities; we have promised that we will give two MLA nominees provided we come to power,” he maintained.
Therie also disclosed that there were 24 minority communities living across Nagaland and maintained that the non-Naga communities have been an integral part of the state even prior to 1963.
As such, it is pertinent for the communities to live in close harmony with each other and to provide mutual respect, he stressed.
He further noted that the full list of candidates will only be revealed during the first week of February as the party is yet to properly form a secular front against the NDPP-BJP coalition.
Among others, Dr Ajoy Kumar, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Nagaland, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh; Runith D’Mellow, in-charge of Nagaland Minority department, AICC and Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary addressed the conference.
