Nagaland COVID-19 tally 2657

DIMAPUR, AUG 7 (NPN): Nagaland on August 7 registered 77 fresh cases of COVID-19, out of which 74 were from Dimapur and 3 from in Kohima, taking the total tally to 2657.

 

According to Health department data, out of the 2,657 positive cases, 1,823 are asymptomatic, 1 moderate, 824 recovered, 2 migrated and 7 deaths (6 deaths due to COVID and 1 COVID positive, but death not due to COVID-19).

 

Further, out of the 2,657 cases, the distribution across various categories of people are: 1,173 cases from paramilitary/military, 1,051 cases from returnees, 185 cases from frontline workers, 195 traced contacts and Others- 53.

 

Nagaland had earlier recorded highest single-day spike of 267 COVID-19 cases on August 4, breaching the earlier record of 194 COVID-19 cases on August 3. In a majority of cases, Dimapur topped the list with 187 out of 276 on August 4 and 136 out of 194 on August 3.

 

Though there have been 12 deaths, all from Dimapur, officially only 7 deaths were recorded. Out of 7 deaths, the Health department had recorded only 6 deaths as due to COVID-19, while the death of a COVID positive person (at a paid quarantine centre) was stated to be “not due to COVID-19”.

 

The initial COVID-19 testing done through TrueNat confirmed that all 12 who died confirmed positive and of which three were females.

 

Recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Nagaland were from armed forces personnel arriving from other parts of the country. The state government has prohibited entry of security force personnel to the state till September 30.

 

Mizoram had also prohibited entry of paramilitary personnel till August 15 after public complaints that the personnel were freely roaming in public places, using public amenities such as banks, ATMs and visiting marketplaces.
