Nagaland: Campaign held to drive home anti-drug message

In a collaborative effort between Assam Rifles, Hikali Achumi (Miss Nagaland 2022), and Kripa Foundation, anti-drug campaign was organised at Parade Ground, Tuensang town on November 23.

The chief guest, Brigadier Vikram Singh, Commander 7 Sector Assam Rifles, underscored the critical role of Assam Rifles in preventing the drug menace in the border areas adjoining Myanmar. Highlighting the porous borders and the proximity to the infamous triangle of Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos, Brigadier Singh shed light on the easy access of drugs in Nagaland. 

In his address, he emphasised that the battle against drugs must be waged at multiple levels—Government, Community, Family, and Individual. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of collaboration among various entities such as the Government, Assam Rifles, Civil Administration, CSOs, and Church organizations. The goal is to create a united front against this menace, spreading awareness and fostering a drug-free environment.

Miss Nagaland Hikali Achumi added depth to the campaign by sharing her insights and appreciating the efforts of Assam Rifles in combating drug abuse across the entire North East region. She urged the gathering to raise their voices against drug addiction, particularly within the Naga society, encouraging the use of platforms such as churches and societies.
The event saw a substantial turnout, with 900 students and 22 civil dignitaries from Tuensang, along with 120 representatives of local civil society in attendance.

The programme highlights included dance performances by Yimkhiung Cultural Troupe and Tuensang Village Students’ Union Cultural Troupe. Saramati Sisters and the Assam Rifles Jazz Band also took the stage. Rev H Sangkap, Pastor of Tuensang Town Baptist Church said the benediction prayer, while Dr Senilo Magh, Medical Officer at District Hospital, Tuensang addressed the audience on drug awareness.

The culmination of the event included a pledge ceremony on anti-drug and a mass bike rally organized by 20 bikers from the FRONTIER RE EN BLOC Bike club. The rally, starting from Parade Ground, traversed through Tuensang town and concluded back at Parade Ground, effectively spreading the message of anti-drug awareness throughout the town.
