Nagaland: 223 cases disposed at national lok adalat; recovers over Rs 3.17 crore in settlement

Kohima, May 12 (MExN): The 2nd quarter of National Lok Adalat was conducted across Nagaland by district legal services authorities in the respective District Court complex under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) on May 11. 

With a total of 11 sitting in all district headquarters, 463 cases were taken up for settlement. A total of 223 cases out of 463 cases which were at pre-litigation and pending stage were settled and disposed off. The total settlement amount involved was Rs 31,744,813. The cases disposed were mostly civil cases including Bank recovery, telephone bills, MACT cases among others. 

An update from NSLSA PRA stated that Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms, it is a forum where disputes/cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled/compromised amicably. Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

In Mokokchung, Julian Sitlhou, Secretary, Mokokchung DLSA was the presiding officer. Watitemjen, Chubarenla, Tajungla and Limanungsang were the conciliators. Altogether 19 pre-litigation cases were taken up and 11 cases were settled. The total settlement amount was Rs 1614718.

In Dimapur, Secretary Dimapur DLSA gave a brief speech and declared the Lok Adalat open. 102 cases were taken up out of which 97 were at Pre-litigation and 5 at litigation stage. Out of which 100 cases were settled. The total settlement amount was Rs 18287205.

In Kohima, Duvelu Vero NJS, Chairman Kohima DLSA & Principal District and Sessions Judge Kohima was the presiding officer and Panel Lawyers as conciliators. Altogether 100 pre-litigation bank recovery, PHE (water bill), telephone and three pending bank recovery cases were taken up whereby 24 pre-litigation cases were settled through the National Lok Adalat. Total outstanding amount was Rs 3887590.5 and Total amount of settlement was Rs 1736711. Therefore a total of Rs 2150879.56 was waived off during the NLA in Kohima. 

In Kiphire, the Lok Adalat was presided by Secretary Holika Sukhalu. Panel Lawyer and 2 PLVs were also present. A total of 7 pre- litigation bank loan recovery cases were taken up. 6 cases reached an amicable settlement. Banks present were SBI and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank. Total settlement amount on conclusion was Rs 383095 out of outstanding amount of Rs 765714.

Longleng DLSA took up and disposed four cases. The total settlement amount is Rs 265990. Secretary LDLSA  Kumdilong Kessen NJS, SBI Bank Officials, P Monyei Phom Panel Lawyer and PLVs were present.

In Wokha, Nino Iralu (NJS) District & Sessions Judge cum Chairperson Wokha DLSA, presided the National Lok Adalat, Renbonthung Tsanglao Panel Lawyer and Yangrothung Humtsoe Panel Lawyer WDLSA were present at the National Lok Adalat. Fifteen matters of pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI, Nagaland Rural Bank, Central Bank & Co-operative Bank were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 694436.

In Zunheboto, Cheliam Khiamniungan, JMFC & Secretary, Zunheboto DLSA was the presiding officer and Easter H Yepthomi and Inolito K Sumi were the Conciliators. Altogether six pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 835281. Before proceeding for settlement of cases the Secretary ZDLSA apprised about the Special Lok Adalat to be held from July 29, to August 3 by the Supreme Court of India and further apprised the bank officials and the public present about the next scheduled date of National Lok Adalat.

The National Lok Adalat in Tuensang was presided by N Longshithung Ezung, Chairperson Tuensang DLSA, Antimangyang Chang, Retainer Lawyer and Birila panel lawyer TDLSA as the conciliator. Altogether 137 bank recovery cases were taken up and 12 bank cases were disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs1350321.

In Phek, National Lok Adalat was presided by Neiko Akami, NJS, Chairperson, Phek DLSA with Vethothi Vero, Retainer Lawyer as conciliator. 29 matters of pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI (Phek and Meluri) and NStCB (Phek, Pfutsero and Chozuba) respectively were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 1358151.

In Peren, the Peren DLSA headed by Secretary Panel lawyers took up 6 cases and disposed them. The total settlement amount was Rs 45,60000.  Mon DLSA took up 35 cases and disposed off 10 cases at a settlement amount of Rs 6,58905.
