Naga women delegation meet NSCN (IM) leaders in Delhi

Delhi, September 20 (MExN): A seven-member Naga Women peace delegation called on the top leaders and Collective Leadership of the NSCN (IM) on September 19 in New Delhi.

 

Comprising of members of the Naga Mothers Association (NMA), Naga Women Union Manipur (NWUM), women representatives from Rengma Hills, Assam and Naga tribes of Arunachal, the delegation was on a ‘peace mission’ in collaboration and supported by the Global Naga Forum.

 

The meeting was reportedly held with the Chief negotiator and General Secretary of the NSCN (IM) Th Muivah, NSCN (IM) Chairman Q Tuccu, Vice Chairman Tongmeth and all top senior leaders of the Collective Leadership.

 

The women delegation apprised the NSCN (IM) leaders on the grave concerns of all Nagas “at this crucial juncture and the call for an early inclusive peaceful settlement.”

 

They appealed for an early, inclusive settlement for peace, recognition of Naga rights and history in all Naga areas and shared the impact of armed conflict on vulnerable sections of communities, particularly its women and the younger generation.



The speakers from the women delegation were Professor Rosemary Dzuvichu, Advisor of NMA, Abeiu Meru, President NMA, Asha Wungnam,President ,NWUM, Miriam Rengma representing Rengma Hills Assam and Yutan Sunya from Tirap, Arunachal.



Dzuvichu also apprised the Leadership on the Global Naga Forum that consists of Nagas from all walks of life committed to the Naga cause and “formed to amplify the history of the Naga story and foster unity and better understanding among Nagas.”

 

The Ato Kilonser briefly narrated the history of peace dialogues with the GoI over the years and the demand that the Naga flag and working Constitution that has been agreed upon, which must be included in the settlement.



He also appreciated the courage and strength of Naga women in protecting Naga rights and acknowledged their role as peace makers.

 

Other speakers included Retd Gen VS Atem, Rh Raising and others from the Collective Leadership. A Naga morning lunch was hosted for the women peace delegation by the Ato Kilonser before the meeting.
