Naga student receives NLEPC award

DIMAPUR, December 15: Lanuchetla Jamir from Jubilee Memorial School, Mokokchung was selected and awarded among the top 60 students across the country at the National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC) during a meeting of the eight recipients of the award from North East at Guwahati on December 6.

In a press release, special secretary to the government of Nagaland, department of school education & SCERT, Kevileno Angami informed that the meeting was organised by the National Innovative Foundation (NIF) – India. The meet was organised to hand over the awards and to discuss about their project with the students.

In the nationwide competition, 60 were selected where 14 were from the North East including Lanuchetla from Nagaland.

The state level exhibition and project competition for Nagaland was held at SCERT Kohima on March 16, 2020 where five participants were selected to virtually participate at the 8th NLEPC.

According to their ranking, Lanuchetla Jamir secured the first position while Lemei Leinak, Vikhostono Nyiseno, Tabasum Talukdar and Ankit Kr. Singh secured the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

At the time of submitting her idea, Lanuchelta Jamir was in class IX at Jubilee Memorial School, Mokokchung and is presently studying at Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.

Her award-winning idea was “rescue me kit” where she expressed her concerns on bullying. This led her to come up with the development of an innovative kit.

During the course of interaction at the meeting, Lanuchetla agreed to partner with NIF for development of prototype and for promotion and marketing.

She received a memento, certificate and a laptop from the department of science and technology (DST), government of India and NIF India.

Meanwhile, guide teacher, Sentilong Amer from Jubilee Memorial School, Mokokchung also received a certificate and memento while the district nodal officer (DEO) Mokokchung and state nodal officer also received a memento.

According to the press release, Lanuchetla Jamir would be participating at the Sakura Science Exchange Programme in Japan if the pandemic situation improves.

It may be mentioned that the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is an innovative programme sponsored and managed by department of science and technology, government of India for attraction of talents to science.
