Mon prepares to combat malaria ahead on monsoon

Mon, July 3 (MExN): The National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) Mon observed Anti-Malaria Month from June 1 to 30, ahead of the monsoon and transmission season. The goal of the campaign was to raise community awareness and encourage participation with the theme, ‘accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world.’

A cleanliness drive, awareness workshops on reducing the risk of source and transmission, regular use of long-lasting insecticide nets (LLIN), preventive strategies, treatment, diagnosis, and service availability were among the activities conducted in every block of the district. Additionally, a health camp was organized in 15 selected villages to screen for malaria.

Tools for raising awareness included Mikings, Focus Group Discussions FGDs, and Interpersonal Communication IPCs. During the anti-malaria month, village authorities, faith-based organizations, and youths were involved.

Malaria Inspectors, Surveillance Inspectors, Surveillance Workers, Malaria Technical Supervisors and ASHAs carried out the activities during the campaign led District Vector Borne Officer, Dr Abenthung Murry. This was stated in a press release issued by Leeyan Chemshy Aier, Media officer, NHM Mon.
