Major fire razes 12 shops to ground in Kohima

Around 12 shops were gutted in a major fire today at Kitsubozou near Chakhesang Baptist Church, Kohima. Source told The Morung Express that the 12 shops, which were housed in two buildings, were burnt to the ground in the blaze that broke out at around 12 noon. The fire also partially damaged other buildings in the adjoining area.  Six vehicles and two bikes were also charred by the fire. 

The cause and the assessment of damage caused by the fire was yet to be ascertained at the time of filling this report. No human casualty has been reported.

Fire tenders from both North and South Fire Stations Kohima rushed to the spot. 

After getting report, Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (N) also immediately sent water tankers and fire fighting parties to the spot. MLA Kevipodi Sophie, ex- MLA Medo Yhokha visited the spot.

Meanwhile, Dzieseneilie Sachü, chairman Kitsubozou Panchayat, Kohima thanked the Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services, Nagaland Police, Assam Rifles, Kohima Village Youth Organization, SDRF from Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Red Cross Society, neighbouring colonies, various organizations and churches for extending help. Sachü informed that social work will carried out on March 20 from 7 AM onwards.
