LRD trains farmers on leaf plate making

DIMAPUR, July 15: District project officer, Dimapur, Land Resources department (LRD) organised a training on operation of hydraulic areca nut leaf plate making machine for farmers-cum-inauguration on July 13.

A press release by assistant programme coordinator, Zacheo Murry stated that as a measure taken up to promote areca nut based enterprises in Nagaland under the post COVID-19 economic recovery plan in Nagaland, the LRD under North East Council (NEC) initiated the distribution of hydraulic areca nut leaf plate making machines to farmers selected from seven districts.

To commemorate the initiative, a training was held at the residence of a progressive farmer, Nihokhu Chophi at 5th Mile Dimapur in the presence of director LRD director T. Renben Lotha, deputy director and supervisory officer for Dimapur district, Puvil Kikhi and state programme coordinator, Inatoli Chishi.

In his speech, T. Renben Lotha pointed out that the initiative was taken up keeping in mind the available areca nut plantation which was taken up through the PMKSY-IWMP programme in the state.

With material easily available, he said that the initiative was considered to be the most practical approach towards utilising resources in an environment friendly manner while providing self-sustenance for farmers.

He urged the farmers to become agents of change by promoting the activity in their respective villages and requested them to inaugurate the launch of the machines before commencing operations to create awareness among the public.

The training session included a detailed practical demonstration on the operational usage of the machine by Nihokhu Chophi.

Earlier, welcome speech was delivered by deputy director LRD and supervisory officer for Dimapur, Puvil Kikhi and watershed development team member, Dimapur, Ngujirho Nyuthe delivered vote of thanks.

Altogether 11 participants representing Wokha, Dimapur, Peren, Zunheboto, Mon, Mokokchung and Longleng participated in the training.
