Lok Sabha polls: KT Zimik gets NPF ticket for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) today handed over NPF ticket to Kachui Timothy Zimik as NPF official candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to II- Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

The ticket was handed over to Zimik by NPF President Apong Pongener in the presence of MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu and leader NPF Legislature Party, MLA Achumbemo Kikon, MLAs Ram Muivah and Leishiyo Keishing (Manipur) at NPF Central office, Kohima.

Speaking at the ticket distribution ceremony, Zimik said that he aspire to contest elections on NPF ticket as the party has been fighting for Naga cause. Zimik said that if elected, he will raise Naga issue in the Parliament.

“We have to come together and work together for Naga cause,” he said. “I have one mission to accomplish. I want all the Nagas to unite and fight for our cause,” he said.

Expressing optimistic that Naga solution will be solved, he said “And for that, we need to sit in the parliament. We have to raise the issue at the parliament. We have to fight for our rights and our cause.”

‘Work hard and help Zimik to win’
Pongener said that the NPF Central Working Committee has selected Zimik for the party ticket in consideration of all his credentials to contest the election. He called upon all the ranks and file of the party to work hard and help Zimik to win this forthcoming electoral battle.

Pongener said that NPF is a 60 years old Naga regional political party organised with great concern by founding fathers to fight for integrity and to stop bloodshed “which our Naga history was imbedded with.” This party is not only a mere political party. It is a Naga People’s movement and a party to sustain the very identity of Naga people in the northeast, he said.

The NPF President said that NPF aims to work and assist in any possible manner on any approach for a peaceful solution of the Indo-Naga political issue, to work for unity and integrity of the people by integrating all contiguous Naga ancestral areas under one administrative roof and also to provide protection to all the ethnic groups who are indigenous inhabitants of all Naga ancestral areas.

It also aim to restore the good name and clean image which the Nagas enjoyed in the past by taking the fight against all forms of corruption at all levels in the society and government.

He said that NPF also aim to work for the economic advancement of the people with special emphasis on rural development, with a view of removing economic disparity in the society.

“No other political parties has such indication of Naga identity issue enshrined in their Constitution which makes our party peculiar and unique and I am proud of it,” he added.

Pongener said “Manipur is unique in nature where our Party is growing from strength to strength with the positive performance of NPF Manipur State Unit.”

‘NPF party is intact’
Also speaking at the programme, Azo said that NPF party in intact under the leadership of NPF president Apong Pongener. Azo called upon the party workers to put a collective effort and “make our candidate win.”

“If we losses, our hope and images will be put to shame,” he said and asked the party workers to work hard “so that our candidate comes out victoriously.”

In Nagaland, he said NPF have resolved to support PDA’s consensus candidate Dr Chumben Murry this time for Lok Sabha polls as NPF is also part of opposition-less government in the state. “We should be firm to our stand and true to our word,” he told the party workers.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the NPF party, Azo requested ENPO not to go to extend of not participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Nagaland.

Leishiyo Keishing also spoke at the programme. The ticket distribution ceremony was chaired by NPF working president Pusazo Luruo while welcome address was delivered by Achumbemo Kikon.
