Kohima, May 20 (MExN): The High Powered Committee on COVID-19 has decided to extend the State wide total lockdown with the existing conditions till May 31.
It may be mentioned that the HPC had earlier announced a State wide lockdown from May 14 to 21.
According to a press release received here today, the emergency meeting of the HPC was held in the conference hall of the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex under the chairmanship of Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister Nagaland to review the COVID-19 situation in the State.
After reviewing the current situation and taking into account the consistent rise of COVID-19 positive cases in the State the HPC decided to extend the lockdown.
Online classes to resume from May 24
Meanwhile, the HPC also informed that, on completion of summer break, schools in the State will be allowed to resume online classes with effect from May 24 as per the detailed SOPs to be brought out by the School Education department.
Centralized depot for oxygen cylinders
For more efficient management of oxygen supply through cylinders, it was decided that a centralized depot of oxygen cylinders will be created in Chümoukedima Police Complex for efficient distribution and to minimize turn around time in refilling the cylinders.
Zonal depots will also be set up in strategic locations across the State, the HPC informed on Wednesday.
To check the spread of the virus in rural areas, a system of community surveillance will be put in place through ASHA workers as well as NSRLM and other volunteers from the civil society organizations to be coordinated by the respective District Task Forces.
56 doctors recruited
According to the Committee, 56 doctors have been recently recruited. The resultant vacancies of doctors and nurses under NHM caused due to this recruitment will be filled up by engaging suitable professionals on temporary basis, the HPC stated.
The meeting was attended by Minister Planning, LR& Parliamentary Affairs, Advisor IT & ST and NRE, Minister H&FW, Minister in-charge of Kohima district, Chief Secretary Nagaland and senior officers from the H&FW, Home and NSDMA etc.
