Landslide damage house, road in Mkg

Correspondents MOKOKCHUNG, AUG 16 (NPN) : Heavy and incessant rains led to landslide here on Saturday night disrupting normal lives. The landslide completely damaged a connecting road at Alongmen ward of the town, affecting more than 30 households of the ward, besides destroying portion of a house.

 

Upon hearing about the incident, Housing & Mechanical minister Tongpang Ozukum visited the area on Sunday morning to take stock of the situation and assured the affected people to provide government assistance. The minister was accompanied by Mokokchung DC Limawabang, SP Vishal and other officials.



Search ops on to rescue missing person: Meanwhile, a massive search and rescue operation is underway at Dikhu river where one person reportedly slipped and fell on Saturday afternoon.

 

Sources said the incident occurred when victim– identified Imtikumzuk (34) of Kubza village and a resident of Artang ward of Mokokchung– and one accomplice went to the jungle to collect bamboo shoot. On their way back, the victim fell into the river and was washed away.

 

Till Sunday evening, the search and rescue efforts were being carried out by various government agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force Mokokchung, police and the public.
