Kughalu Mulatonu elected General Secretary of Ang Mai-led NSCN (K)

Dimapur, May 9 (MExN): In a significant development, Kughalu Mulatonu has been reportedly elected as the General Secretary of NSCN (K) led by Maj Gen (Rtd) Ang Mai while Nyeiton Konyak is the new Vice-Chairman.

The duo were elected during a all party emergency meeting on May 8 through a unanimous decision by the joint council of Kilonsers, Tatar Hoho, and Military wing Commanders, strictly adhering to the Yehzabo of the NSCN, stated a press release receive here. 

The subsequent oath-taking ceremony took place at the organisation’s council headquarters and the oaths were administrated by Maj Gen (Rtd) Mai, it informed. 

The ceremony was attended by a broad assembly of dignitaries, including the Council of Kilonsers, Military wing Commanders, numerous well-wishers, and Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (Myanmar), it added. 

The release from the MIP, Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) described Mulatonu (55) is a distinguished National worker from Phisami Village, Kiphire while Konyak (54) is termed as a veteran national worker from Momkho Village, Lahe township.

This decision underscores their esteemed status and the trust placed in them by the NSCN, it said. 

It further noted that the “pivotal event sets a strong precedent for leadership within the NSCN and reinforces the organisational structure that continues to guide its operations and strategic decisions towards Naga independence.

The presence of the organisation’s top officials, along with the collective spirit of its members and supporters, echoed uniform dedication to the cause, it added.

Meanwhile, the release noted that the NSCN’s leadership is particularly crucial as it navigates the “complexities of advocating for the Naga independence.”

The collective leadership is expected to bring renewed vigour and strategic direction to the ongoing efforts to achieve its goal, it added.

With the new development, the organisation aims to intensify its “diplomatic efforts, strengthen alliances with sympathetic entities, and further articulate the political, cultural, and social justifications for Nagas self- determination,” it asserted.  

The release further stated that the NSCN’S strategy involves not only advocating for the struggle but also “fostering concretised among the various Naga groups.”

“This unity is pivotal as the NSCN-K seeks to consolidate its position both domestically and internationally, ensuring that the voice of the Nagas is not only heard but is influential in shaping its own future,” it noted.

“With these renewed efforts, the leadership transition marks significant phase in the NSCN’s journey towards achieving its long-standing objectives,” it added.
