KOHIMA MUDSLIDE: Traffic Police Kohima advise LMVs to take alternate route; heavy vehicles restricted

In view of the mudslide occurring at National Highway 2 at Lerie Chazou area, the Kohima police has advised the public to take alternate routes for safety and precaution against any incident. Light Motor Vehicles travelling to town from South-Phesama area and vice versa have been advised to take alternate route via Ara Dura or Ministers’ Hill. 

Heavy vehicles, as for the time-being have been restricted from plying till complete restoration of normal highway traffic. 

Giving an update on the current situation, the Additional SP and PRO Kohima Police said the mudslide had completely covered the highway in the morning. 

While the NHIDCL has put one excavator for clearing the debris, frequent heavy downpour due to monsoon season has triggered the mudslide. Despite clearing operations, debri continues to fall over, covering more than half of the highway. 

He further informed that additionall traffic police personnel are on duty in the area.
