Kaito inaugurates State’s first organic AC market

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, DEC 8 (NPN) : State Agriculture & Cooperation minister, G. Kaito Aye inaugurated Nagaland’s first organic air condition (AC) market Tuesday at Nagaland State Agricultural Marketing Board complex, Agri Expo site Dimapur.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Aye said it was a red letter day for the state and the farmers, adding that it was just a beginning of a new vision to promote farmers and to lift the farmers community.

The minister urged the Agri and allied department and the producers to link with NSMB for the success of the market and for the benefit of all section of the people.

While encouraging farmers to look beyond local and national market, Aye also called upon the departments to play active role and take advantage of the facilities and increase the production to become self-sufficient. The minister also unveiled the foundation stone for construction of the farmers hostel at the premises. Aye was hopeful that the hostel, which will accommodate over a hundred people, would be completed within a year.

Also speaking at the programme, State agriculture production commissioner, Y Kikheto Sema asserted that it was time for the agri-allied sector to come together and focus on one mission– sustainability of the people to become self-sufficient.

With barely any scope for large and medium scale industry in the state, Kikheto said that the only way out was to focus on Agri-allied sectors which would also generate employment opportunities. He also informed about setting up of a daily organic market within the complex.

In his brief report, NSAMB chief executive officer, G Ikuto Zhimomi said that the total project cost for the market was Rs. 948 lakhs, funded by Ministry of Agriculture and Framers Welfare under CSS (RKVY- additional grant 2018-19).

He said that the construction began in August 2019 and was scheduled to be completed by April 2020. However, due to lockdown, the project was delayed and was completed only in November.

The market area occupies 42230 sq.ft which also accommodates 2000 sq.ft for the AC daily market, 1750 sq.ft area for cold storage of 100 MT capacity in two chambers (1000 for cold storage and 5000 for dry storage), 2700 sq.ft for collection and grading, packaging; 2500 sq.ft for mini-park & water fountain and the remaining area made available for parking and solar panel.

Zhimomi also informed that the daily AC market and cold storage will be run by uninterrupted power supply (solar energy of 63 KVA capacity, DG power of 100 KVA and grid power supply).

Earlier, associate youth pastor, ABCD Talimoa Jamir invoked God’s blessing. The welcome address was delivered by director of Agriculture Ben Yanthan and vote of thanks delivered by executive officer, NSAMB Benri Mozhui.
