The JD (United) has set up its Nagaland unit Secretary General, Kitoho S Rotokha as its candidate from 5 Ghaspani II Assembly Constituency for the Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections scheduled on February 27. The party’s state unit President, NSN Lotha made the announcement on January 29 at a programme, in Dimapur, in the presence of the JD (U) leadership led by National President, Rajiv Ranjan Singh.
Rotokha said that he was entering the electoral race with a purpose to introduce developmental reforms in the constituency by replicating the development model of Bihar under the leadership of the JD (U) supremo, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. “My main objective is to empower to youth,” he said, while adding that he was already on a mission to revamp traditional industry.
While stating that Kumar’s development programme has been transformational for Bihar, he said that the JD (U)’s secular image and good governance credentials should also be flown in Nagaland, as well.
JD (U) National President, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, in his address, said that the party believes in fulfilling commitments as demonstrated by Nitish Kumar in Bihar. While claiming that the commitments made by Kumar in the run to the 2015 Bihar polls were fulfilled before the 2020 elections, he said, “I have come here to assure appeal the people to believe in Nitish Kumar and JD (U). It is the only party which can ensure peace and provide development to Nagaland.”
On the other he held said that the BJP has failed on its assurance to the people of Nagaland. “In 2018, there was election in Nagaland and the BJP headed by Modi, gave an assurance to the people of Nagaland that the 2018 election was for solution. In 2024, I want to ask a question, where is the solution?” asked Singh, who also represents Bihar’s Munger Parliamentary Constituency.
Meanwhile, queried on the JD (U)’s potential list of candidates, state unit President, NSN Lotha, replied, “We will be fielding only winnable candidates. The final list will be declared as and when done.”
Singh supplemented the response by informing that Lotha will contest from 37 Tyui AC, which is held by Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton.
Other party leaders present were National Secretary Afaque Ahmad khan and Bihar Water Resources Minister, Sanjay Kumar Jha.
