The two-day international seminar on ‘Fusion: Intellectual and Cultural Exchange’ came to a close on June 2 with Dr Michael Heneise, Executive Director, The Highland Institute, Associate Professor, UiT The Arctic University of Norway and Dr Anungla Aier, Retd Director of Higher Education, speaking as resource persons.
The seminar was organised by the Department of English, DGC and the Research Committee, in collaboration with The Highland Institute, Kohima and the IQAC, Dimapur Government College (DGC).
In total, 53 research scholars and professors from different backgrounds presented their respective papers on a wide range of topics based on the seminar’s core theme.
Speaking to The Morung Express, A Sentiyula (Convenor), Assistant Professor & HoD, Department of English, DGC explained that the objective of the seminar was to give an opportunity to the teachers and research scholars to present and publish their thesis and research papers. This, she says would help further their careers moving forward.
While also mentioning that it was an occasion to learn about the theme, as the word ‘fusion’ connotes negative or positive thoughts among different individuals within society. “So it was something that I wanted to explore,” she said.
“The college administration and the IQAC were willing to sponsor the seminar. “Based on that we decided to speak on a topic that was multi-disciplinary and everyone could relate to,” she added.
She noted how conversations around such topics would better help understand contentious issues such as the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) in the political decision making process as well. “So this topic is not closed chapter as such, I think it is something that we really have to discuss about,” she reminded.
