Dimapur, April 3 (MExN): In a first official update since the arrest of alleged drug ‘kingpin’ Bahar Uddin arrested on March 22, the Nagaland Police today informed that it conducted searches at different locations in Dimapur to collect further evidences and ‘incriminating material’ has been seized.

“Incriminating material – documents, bank related papers, passbooks, multiple Sim cards (issued on fictitious names) and telephone devices (mobile handsets) have been seized,” the police said.

Based on further leads, more incisive action will follow in the coming days, it added.

Earlier on March 22, the Nagaland Police informed that Uddin was one of the major absconding accused persons in an ongoing investigation of a criminal case and he was arrested from Sonitpur, Assam. Two other persons were arrested from Dimapur and Imphal Manipur respectively.

As per the police, Uddin is one of the major Narcotic Drug traffickers of the North East and primarily operating from Dimapur with his supply chain having upward procurement and trafficking links in Manipur and downward sale linkages in Nagaland and Assam.

“Multiple cases of Ganja and Sunflower/Shan flower (Heroin) trafficking are registered against him in Nagaland and other parts of country by different agencies,” it maintained.

As per the investigations till now, Uddin has procured and trafficked more than 800 soap cases of Narcotic drug Sunflower/shanflower (Heroin) from different suppliers operating from Manipur during the past 6-10 months, the police stated.

He was also involved in Ganja business since 1995 and detailed investigation regarding the cases and his role in trafficking of narcotics in the old as well as current cases is being undertaken, it added.

Terming the present arrest as continuance of its ‘War Against Drugs,’ the Nagaland Police assured that it would endeavour to unearth the “entire trafficking chain in this case and also other cases.”

In this connection, it requested the public requested to share information on any traffickers.

The State Police also extended its appreciation to Angami Public Organisation, Angami Youth Organization, Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO), and other Civil Society Organisations (CSOS) for “actively assisting the police whenever requested by deputing their representatives as witnesses etc.”

While possession and carrying of illicit drugs are offences, financing and coordinating trafficking activities or assistance in trafficking by hiding drugs or proceeds of drugs or providing shelter to criminals or allowing traffickers to transfer funds etc are also offences, the police said.
Accordingly, it urged the public to exercise caution regarding such activities.
